Mangaluru, Jan 14: The police personnel attached to the city crime branch here have succeeded in arresting three persons who have been accused of stealing two-wheelers from the city and neighbouring districts. They have recovered five two-wheelers from the gang.
The arrested men have been identified as Syed Afrid (19), Muhammed Safwan (19) and Muhammed Ghouse (20), all from Bengre Casba village here.
The city crime branch police, who got information on Sunday that three people were standing near the Sulabh toilet at Panambur with two-wheelers without any number plates under suspicious circumstances, raided the spot. They recovered five motor bikes and scooters from the three persons who have been taken into custody. They were stolen from the city, Manipal, and Hassan district.
In addition, three cellphones were also recovered from the accused. The total value of assets taken into custody has been put at Rs 1,58,000. The accused and the items seized from their possession were handed over to the city (north) police station for further action.
Syed Afrid already faces murder attempt case registered in Panambur station. He was arrested in the case but had given the police a slip. Muhammed Safwan faces theft cases registered in the past in Pandeshar and Panambur police stations.
