Bengaluru, Jan 10: A fan of well-known Kannada actor, Yash, who had tried to kill himself by igniting fire after dousing himself with petrol in front of the residence of his idol here, succumbed to burn injuries on Wednesday January 9. The fan was frustrated so much at his inability to personally convey birthday greetings to Yash that he tried to end his life.
The deceased has been identified as Ravi (28) from Solanayakanahalli, Pavagada in Tumakuru district. He worked as a painter and stayed at Laggere in the city. He was a die hard fan of Yash and had made it a point to meet the actor every year on his birthday to personally convey greetings. Like in the past, he had arrived at the residence of Yash at Hosakerehalli to extend birthday greetings this year too.
Ravi was overtaken by emotions at his failure to meet the actor. He poured petrol on himself in front of Yash's residence and set himself on fire. The police immediately doused the fire by pouring cold water on him and then admitted him into Victoria Hospital here. Ravi, who had suffered 80 percent burn injuries, was fighting for his life till he finally succumbed on Wednesday morning.
Ramanna, father of Ravi, who was overtaken by grief at the sudden demise of his son, has pleaded with youngsters not to end their lives because of excessive craze for films and heroes. He said that in the past Ravi, one of his two children, used to look after the family by distributing newspapers and pasting posters. "He was a die hard fan of Yash since the last five years. Even though we pleaded with him against going to Yash's home to greet the hero, he went there. When we visited the hospital, even in that condition, he wanted to know whether Yash would come to meet him and expressed his desire to wish him. Yash had come to the hospital yesterday and pacified our son and us. Yash is not at fault and our son was," he stated.
