Puttur: Former MLA Shakuntala Shetty spells out different protest programmes by Congress

Puttur, Jan 9: Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday January 8, former MLA, Shakuntala Shetty, announced about certain programmes being organized by the party. She said that a programme of walkathon for three days urging resumption of suspended highway widening work on national highway 75 has been planned, and protest programme in front of all branches of Vijaya Bank will be held to register opposition to the merger plan. She also said that a programme of address on 'Chatrapati Shivaji - a secular leader' by the descendant of Shivaji, Ranjit Singh Balasaheb Chauhan, is also being arranged.

She explained that the walkathon for three days between January 14 and 16 led by former minister, B Ramanath Rai, and district Congress committee president and MLC, Harish Kumar, is being organized by the district Congress committee, urging to restart work on widening of national highway between Addahole and B C Road immediately. "The programme will be flagged off at Nelyady on January 14 morning . Public meeting will be held at Uppinangady at 4 pm that day. The jatha will resume from Uppinangady on January 15 and culminate with public meeting at Mani at 4 pm. On January 16, the walkathon from Mani will continue and end with public meeting at B C Road, she stated.

She said that considering the popular sentiments of the people of the district who are opposed to the merger of Vijaya Bank with Bank of Baroda, party workers will hold protest from 10 am to 11 am on January 10 by wearing black badges in front the branches of Vijaya Bank.
