Chitradurga, Jan 8: MLA, Goolihatti Shekhar, who had tried to end his life by dousing himself with petrol and igniting fire, is recovering after having been diagnosed with eye infection. He plans to get advanced treatment at Bengaluru.
Shekar said that he wants to file a complaint of abetment to suicide and also move breach of privilege motion against the police, as the police had created situations which encouraged him to try to end his life.
"The police registered a false complaint against 500 workers of our party. When I questioned this move, they recklessly asked me to do what I wanted. This was like inspiring me to commit suicide," he claimed. He also added that this suicide attempt was not farcical. "I have never learnt to act out drama. I am extremely pained at the police action in booking our party workers. Many cannot digest the fact that Hosadurga constituency is represented by BJP legislator. They are spoiling my reputation by creating artificial sand shortage," he explained, duly adding that Congress workers are easily getting sand. Shekar also explained that when cases are registered against Congress workers, they are able to get released on bail immediately.
"Everyday, 100 to 150 tipper loads of sand are being illegally transported. The police fail to act on the transporters but show their power on poor people," he explained.
After coming to know that Shekhar had been admitted into McGann Hospital Shivamogga for treatment, thousands of his supporters came from Hosadurga at night and visited him. He said he is having burning sensation in his eyes and he plans to get further treatment at Bengaluru.
B S Yeddyurappa and K S Eshwarappa met Shekhar at the hospital. It is said that Yeddyurappa asked the MLA not to indulge in such acts henceforth, duly registering his disapproval of the suicide attempt.
In the meanwhile, the police have registered murder attempt case under section 309 of Indian Penal Code at Hosadurga police station.
