Mangaluru, Jan 7: The committee of like-minded citizens of Mulky, which had prepared to hold a major protest against Hejamady tollgate where they have to pay charges although it is located within a kilometre from the town, withdrew the plan on the basis of promises made.

The consultative meeting held at Annapooorneshwari hall of Bappanadu temple at Mulky held on Sunday discussed about the issue. During the meeting, Mulky town panchayat president, Sunil Alva, informed over phone that at a meeting held at Mangaluru circuit house chaired by MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, National Highway Authority of India officials and representatives of Navayuga Toll Company have promised to extend facility of waiver of toll charges for vehicles from Mulky. Based on this, the fight was temporarily postponed.

Entrepreneur, Harish N Putran, expressed the need to form a committee of Mulky revenue division citizens to unitedly fight against problems faced by them. Several persons came up with suggestions on this matter. Balachandra Sanil, president of previous committee, said that Nagarika Samiti and Farmers Committee formed in the past have now become defunct. Both the committees have money in a nationalized bank. He felt that the new committee can make use of this money.

Harish Putran felt that an action plan should be drafted for the early implementation of underground drainage system at Mulky . Many felt that a committee should be formed to pursue issues like formation of Mulky taluk, delay in highway works etc. Leaders like Machu Acharya, Devanna Nayak, Ranganath Shetty, Jeevan K Shetty, Kishore Shetty, and others were present.
