Mangalore, Dec 20: Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike will be organizing a convention of all religions and people for harmonious living at Chikmagalur from Sunday December 28 to Monday December 29.
Speaking to media persons on Friday December 19, Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike state secretary K L Ashok said that communalism and the terrorism pose great challenge to today's society. Terrorism in the name of any religion or ideology is condemnable. The convention has been organized to voice evils of such acts, he informed.
The attacks on Christians, Muslims and the Dalits across the state are escalated after BJP took the reigns of state administration. Peace and harmony reigned in Bababudangiri, located in Chikmagalur for centuries. However, BJP has been considering it as a second Ayodhya. But owing to progressive thinkers, it is still the center of harmony. All these issues will be discussed during the convention, he added.
The representatives of all the religions and the leaders of various movements will be participating in the convention. Prominence will be given to the Shoodra and Dalit culture in the convention, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, well-known intellectual Pattabhiram Somayaji said that the supporters of a religious leader were troubling the distributors of Kannada eveninger Karavali Ale, in the city. They have also ransacked the computer training institute owned by Peoples' Union for Civil Liberties president P B D'Sa a few days ago. The cowardly act by the goons deserves to be condemned, he argued.
Suresh Bhat Bakrebail, Mohammed Kakkinje and others were present at the press meet.
