Mumbai, Dec 27: Kurubara Sangha celebrated its 531st birth anniversary of Kanakadasa at Dayastan mandir, Masjid Nagar here recently. Maharashtra government minister of veterinary, horticulture and fisheries development Mahadeva Jankar chaired the programme.
“We come empty-handed and go back empty-handed. In between why do we need religion, caste, creed asked Kanakadasa 500 years ago. It is unfair that caste system has not gone away from us till now,” said the minister.
SRP party national president Hakkisagar, Masjid Banar congress committee president Vinod Devicha, Vally M Shaikh, Aman Bai Kumar, Mandya district panchayat member Kodimaranahalli Devaraju, K R Pete taluk block congress president K R Ravindrababu, national Bharath Jyothi award winner K R Pete block congress president Dr Meenakshi Ramesh, K R Pete taluk sugarcane growers association vice president and taluk panchayat member Sannaninge Gowda and several other elite were present.
The portrait of Kanakadasa was brought in procession before the programme via main roads accompanied by several Janapada troupes to the dais.
Honorary secretary Ravikumar Kalegowda welcomed the gathering. Amratha Shetty compered the programme. Ladies wing president Reshma P Gowda proposed the vote of thanks. Bengaluru’s well known singer Shivakumar M Mourya and party presented Keerthanas of Kanakadasa.
