Panaji, Dec 26: Days after Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai demanded that the in-flight announcements at Goa Airport should be in Konkani, Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu directed all airports to make public announcements in local language first followed by Hindi and English.
Civil Aviation Officials said that the Airport Authority of India has issued a directives to all aerodromes under its control to start making public announcements in the local language in addition to Hindi and English.
GFP has thanked Prabhu for the decision, which is in sync with the ideology of the party which supports the thought that priority should be given to local language, and Konkani in Goa.
GFP President Vijai Sardesai tweeted “Dev borem korum, @sureshpprabhu! Our language is our identity and you’ve, on one prompt and express decision, celebrated the linguistic and cultural diversity of our nation, and answered, in no uncertain terms, those who tend to ridicule and belittle it.”
Congress party had ridiculed the demand of Sardesai questioning why he was not promoting elsewhere.
