Tumkur, Dec 26: In an unfortunate and sad incident a farmer, who was dejected as he could not repay the Rs five lac loan that he took from the private financiers, in order to drill a borewell, killed himself. This incident took place under the limits of Kolala Hobali police station of Korategere taluk of the district.
Shivanna (58), a resident of Alalasandara Karekallu village of Korategere taluk in the district is the farmer who committed suicide. The deceased wrote letters to chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, deputy chief minister Parameshwar, deputy commissioner of the district, SP and the police inspector of Kolala before hanging himself from the branch of a tamarind tree in his plot.
In his letter the deceased Shivanna has accused Siddaiah the private money lender, who gave him a loan of Rs five lac as the reason for his death. Shivanna's death note says "I had taken Rs five lac loan on meter interest from teacher Siddaiah, son of Nagaratnamma, a resident of G Nagenahalli of the taluk and drilled six borewells but could not get water. As I could not grow crop, I could not repay the loan. As the pressure of the people who have given me loan is increased, I am committing suicide."
Kolala police sub-inspector Santhosh visited the spot and registered a case of unnatural death.
