Belagavi, Dec 25: In a dreadful act, a woman sleeping in a farm house on the outskirts of Gundenatti village in Khanapur taluk in the district was found murdered and her son was also attacked mercilessly and his eyes were found to have been gouged out of their sockets.
The murdered woman was Jayashree Kallappa Belagavi (35), working for the Anganwadi centre at Gundenatti Kallammanagara. Her son, Anurag (8) suffered critical injuries.
Jayashree is a native of Kasamalagi village in the taluk. She had married Kallappa Belagavi from Bailoor in Kittur taluk ten years back. As differences arose with the family of her husband, Jayashree had separated from her husband. She thereafter began to live with parents near Kalammanagara on the outskirts of Gundenatti village. It is said that two weeks back, Jayashree fought with her parents too. She thereafter started to live in a farm house in the fields located near her parental home along with her son.
On Sunday night, miscreants who got into Jayashree's residence by removing tiles of the house, hit her head with a plough. Jaysashree writhed in pain and died in a pool of blood. They also attacked her son who was sleeping by his mother's side with lethal weapons besides inserting sharp weapons into both his eyes. The boy fell unconscious with bleeding body parts and eyes. The attackers removed gold ornaments found on the woman's body and escaped from the rear door.
The incident came to light at around 8.30 am on Monday. The police visited the spot after villagers alerted them about the incident. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs were pressed into service.
Nandgad police who took up investigation said that they have begun investigation and so far they have not been able to ascertain reason for the crime. A delegation of Anganwadi Workers and Assistants Association submitted a memorandum to tahsildar, Shivanand Ullegaddi on Monday, seeking the government to take this incident in all seriousness, conduct impartial investigation and arrest the culprits immediately.
