Mumbai, Dec 12: The Governor of Maharashtra S C Jamir today said that terrorism has posed the greatest challenge to humanity. Referring to the recent terror attacks in Mumbai, the Governor said that time has come for every individual to stand up and be counted in the fight against terror. In this connection, he appealed the people to channelise their anger and anguish into determination to fight terror and prevent vested interests from creating enmity in society on the lines of caste, religion or race.

Governor Jamir was addressing a condolence meeting organized by the Jewish community at Mumbai's historic Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue on Sunday (7th Nov) afternoon. Consul General of Israel in Mumbai Orna Sagiv, Consul General of United States of America in Mumbai Paul Folmsbee, Chairman of the Synagogue Trust Solomon Sopher, and a large number of members of the Jewish community were present on the occasion.

Offering heartfelt condolences to the relatives of persons who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of 26th November, which included six members of the Jewish community, Mr Jamir said every religion teaches love, compassion, peace and goodwill towards each other. Unfortunately there are some religious leaders who misinterpret the Holy Books and brainwash the gullible youth to the path of violence and destruction. He said that religious organizations have the responsibility to maintain the purity of religions and to spread the religious tenets to the masses.

Earlier the Governor lighted the memorial lamp at the Synagogue. Rabbi Benjamin recited the Prayer Mourners Kaddish.
