Mangaluru, Dec 17: The annual sports meet for journalists was held here at Nehru Maidan on Sunday December 16.
Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police Dr B R Ravikanthegowda inaugurated the sports meet and said that getting involved in sports helps journalists who work under lot of pressure.
"There is a wrong perception about Dakshina Kannada district. In reality the situation here is peaceful. Media has a major role in maintaining peace and brotherhood in the society. The 'Brand Mangaluru' initiative of the Press Club is commendable and the police department will support wholeheartedly," he said.
MCC commissioner Mohammed Nazir and senior journalist Manohar Prasad were the chief guests. District journalists’ association president Shrinivas Nayak Indaje presided over the programme.
Information department officer Khader Shah, Press Club president Annu Mangaluru, Press Club trust president K Ananda Shetty, general secretary Ibrahim Adkasthala were present.
Association committee members Vijay Kotian welcomed and Harish Motukana rendered vote of thanks. Vice-president Sharath Shetty Kinnigoli compered the programme.
Banana eating, Ice Cream eating, Chakkuli eating, slow bike race, running race, cricket and other games were held for the media persons.
