Ramanagara, Dec 14: Alleging that their son had eloped with the daughter-in-law of another family, a crowd forcibly entered the house of the eloped youth and forcibly fed poison to his parents, resulting in the death of both of them.
The deceased have been identified as Siddaraju (50), from Kalligowdana Doddi in Kanakapura taluk in the district, and his wife, Sakamma (45). A case about the incident has been filed at Kodihalli police station.
The crowd believes that the deceased couple's son, Manu (25), has run away to Bengaluru along with the daughter-in-law of Jaware Gowda, a resident of this village.
The crowd owing allegiance to Jaware Gowda barged into the house of Siddaraju at 12 am on Thursday, attacked the couple, and forcibly ingested poison. The crowd pushed around the neighbours who came there to amicably settle the issue, locked the doors of the house from outside and ransacked the house, it is said.
When the neighbours called for an ambulance, the crowd stopped the ambulance from assisting the suffering couple and said that the couple deserve to die on their own. After the ambulance staff said they would report the matter to the police, they allowed the ambulance to take the couple to hospital after an hour. But by the time Siddaraju and Sakamma were taken to a hospital at Bengaluru, both of them had died, the police complaint claimed.
The situation in the village has become tense as eloping of a married woman with a youth belonging to another caste is taboo there. As soon as the police visited the village, the culprits escaped, it is said.
In spite of all these things the whereabouts of the eloped couple is not known. The youth did not even come to visit his deceased parents.
