Udupi, Dec 7: Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) district unit launched Constitution and Secular Justification Day promotion vehicle on the 63rd death anniversaryof Dr B R Ambedkar which is also known as Mahaparinirvan Diwas at Martyrs’ ground Ajjarkad, here on Thursday, December 6.
District secretary of CPI (M) Balakrishna Shetty said, “Udupi district administration has restricted us from holding protest at clock tower giving us excuse of traffic problem in the city. It is suppressing our freedom of expression. About 15% are Muslims out of total population of India. Babri masjid was demolished on December 6. CPI (M) is not opposing the construction of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya. The dispute is already at Supreme Court. But Pejawar Swamiji is pressurising the government to make ordinance. Does this makes any sense?
“Ram Mandir construction issue comes up only during election time. This is only for Hindu vote bank. According to the Indian Constitution, all must be treated equally. Employment is one of the fundamental rights in Indian Constitution. Today, youngsters are struggling to get jobs. People are not getting wages for their work. Some genuine amendments must be done in the Indian Constitution. But one should not create enmity among people.
“The Supreme Court has allowed the entry of women into Sabarimala temple. But RSS and Sangh Parivar activists are opposing this order. This is not right. This is all for political benefit. People are misusing religious rights in the name of Constitution,” he said.
Vital Poojary said, “The union government led by BJP promised many things for labourers, common people and farmers. But nothing is happening as promised. No development is taking place. Instead of wiping the tears of farmers, banks are sending officials to confiscate their property. The union government has spoiled the entire banking system.”
Suresh Kallagar, H Narasimha, Balkis Banu and others were present.
