Udupi, Dec 6: The valedictory ceremony of the three-day of district police annual sports meet was held at district stadium, Ajjarkad here on Wednesday, December 5.
District Armed Reserve (DAR) team emerged as the overall team champion at the sports event. Yogish Naik and Ashritha Kundapur bagged individual championship.
District police officers team won volleyball and DAR team bagged the runners-up spot. Kundapur women team won throwball and Udupi women team occupied second place. SB Eleven Udupi won against Udupi district working journalists’ team in cricket.
District police officers Udupi defeated Armed Reserved Police in tug-of-war. DAR team won Kabaddi and Udupi subdivision team secured the second place.
Thrisha, a student of St Cecily's School and a national level athlete, was honoured on the occasion for her achievement.
Superintendent of police Laxman Nimbargi said, “From three days, all teams of the district participated in sports events with sportsmanship. It was not only sports meet, but also symbolised unity and integrity. It is an opportunity for the families to get-together.
“Police personnel must attend duty, even after having personal or family problems. Sports enhance one's physical fitness. Let us all keep one hour for physical exercise activities everyday.
“Police personnel have to adopt three important factors in life. Firstly, one has to take care of his family and children though there may be pressure. Secondly, they should build confidence and only then police can work peacefully and efficiently. Third important point is learning. The best investment in life is education. It will shape our future,” he said.
