Mumbai, Dec 3 (IANS): The figures and depictions of sculptor Ratilal Kansodaria, which touch the real, mythological and philosophical in one stroke, and tell innumerable stories, are on view at the Jehangir Art Gallery here starting Monday.

Borrowing from real life acts of play, the Gujarat-based sculptor moulds his bronze sculptures into surreal landscapes, sparking wonder and thought. Hailed as one of the prominent contemporary Indian sculptors who is devoted to the medium of bronze, Kansodaria prefers a narrative style.

Whether it is a chariot-turned tree house showing birds and children in play, a visual medley of bronze elephants, the Ganges and the earth, or a palanquin-shaped children's tricycle pulled by a king, Kansodaria's works will bring out as many interpretations as the number of eyes seeing them.

"The more one looks at his works the more one realizes how he transforms the perceived realities into a fantastic reality, taking him into a wonderland where time and language assume surreal dimensions," art critic Johny ML said in a note on the exhibition.

The former Sheth CN College of Fine Arts student has displayed his work in group and solo shows in the country and abroad including in the 9th International Contemporary Art Sculpture Triennial at Osaka, Japan, and All India Fine Arts Exhibition in Germany, organiser Aura Art said in a statement.

Eighteen of his sculptures will be on public view till December 9.
