Mangaluru, Dec 3: Karnataka Lokayukta, Justice P Vishwanath Shetty, said that reports being prepared by Lokayukta officials during their visits to different departments would be brought to the notice of the heads of these departments with instructions to address the follies. He added that he has instructed the officials of his department to register suo motu cases in respect of lapses of serious nature.
He was speaking to media persons after holding progress review meeting on Sunday December 2 at the circuit house here, in which officials of various departments participated.
Justide Shetty added that he had, in the past, directed department heads to visit at least 30 percent of Anganwadis, government hospitals, social welfare department, students hostels falling under backward classes and minorities departments, and revenue department, to verify the situation prevalent there and streamline their working. He said that the progress in the implementation of these instructions was reviewed at the Sunday meeting in which he issued instructions based on reports.
He said that he has asked district health officer, Dr Ramakrihna Rao, to check complaints relating to the government hospital at Puttur and take remedial measures. He also said that explanations were collected about problems if any arising out of delay in shifting Lady Goschen Hospital. "I have asked the officials to specifically give more attention to health services in this district," he explained.
On the issue of complaints emanating from the district regarding sand issue, he said he has asked officials of the department to verify them. He also said that personally he would like to visit all the hostels and government hospitals in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts personally and take stock of the situation there. "However, because of paucity of time, I would not be able do so. Still, I will undertake visits to at least a few of them," he clarified.
Lokayukta superintendent of police, Madaiah, inspectors, Vijaya Prasad and Bharati, Lokayukta special public prosecutor, Rajesh S N and Raveendra Manippady were present.
