Udupi, Dec 1: On the historical event of the centenary celebrations of St Cecily’s institutions, here a centenary ‘Cecilian Meet’ was held on Friday November 30 at St Cecily’s School grounds.
Gopal Poojary, former staff of St Cecily’s commenced the programme by ringing the school bell. Former Cecilians inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Later all the retired teachers and staff were felicitated on the occasion.
Vinaya Prasad famous television actress and former Cecilian sharing her thoughts on the occasion said, "I feel proud to say that my career as an actress started from this stage. There are so many memories to be cherished here. I always remember my school teachers in all my interviews given. It is my school teacher’s support that I am able to talk in a public gathering today. I am called as a guest to the programme today but I would like to say that I am not a guest here but this stage is mine, this school is mine and here are my beloved teachers through whom I have learnt a lot.”
Another former Cecilian Veena Bannanje, well known author in the city expressing her happiness said, "If I am able to stand here today I must remember all my teachers for their tolerance towards me. I remember my Kannada sir today who has made me a writer today. He had made me act in all the Kannada dramas in school. Also I remember my school friend who had helped me to pass in Mathematics. I also remember my then principal Sr Nirmala Francis who had taught me to see life in a different way. I am grateful to all my teachers who have made me what I am today.”
The famous Punyakoti story was depicted in the form of Yakshagana, the stunning performance of Bhargavi Troupe and saxophone played by 'India got Talent' fame Anjali Shanghag and the cultural programme given by the former Cecilians, increased the enthusiasm of the evening.
Sr Rose Agnes former principal of St Cecily’s High school addressing the gathering said, "My dear Cecilians education and all that you have acquired in your yesteryears on this holy ground is for progress, peace and happiness of your family, country and the world at large. I am sure everyone of us who is part of Cecily’s is proud today and happy today. We shout cheers of gratitude that our children have grown and they carry in their hearts that reverence and respect for their teachers. I thank everyone who performed today and who has extended a helping hand for the programme as well as for the new Kannada medium building.”
Sr Susheela, superior general, AC, Sr Maisie, AC, superior and joint secretary, St Cecily’s Institutions, Sr Gracy, principal, St Cecily’s PUC, Sr Alicia, headmistress, St Cecily’s Preparatory School were present on the occasion.
Sr Vibha AC, headmistress of St Cecily’s Kannada Primary School welcomed the gathering, Savitha Shenoy, vice president, St Cecily’s alumni association welcomed the gathering.
