Udupi, Nov 29: Chandra K Hemmady, journalist by profession, was arrested on the late night of Tuesday November 27 for sexual offence committed on a boy.

The accused Chandra had taken the said boy to a forest at Kappady, Muroor on November 10 and abused him sexually. It is said in the complaint that the accused repeated the act three to four times after this incident. The boy went under mental depression due to this act by the offender. He was frightened and did not venture out of the house. The parents who tensed by the unusual behaviour of the boy, took him to the hospital. During the interaction with the psychiatrist at the hospital, the boy revealed the heinous crime committed by the accused journalist. The victim was later admitted to a hospital in Manipal and treated for the depression.

It is unearthed from the police investigation that the accused Chandra had this vice since five to six years and he had committed similar acts of sexual offence against more than 10 minor boys. The accused is working as a reporter in one of the dailies of Hemmady in the taluk of Kundapur. He was married two years ago and has a child as well.

A case in this regard is registered at Byndoor police station as per the complaint given by the father of the victim.

The arrested accused will be produced before the judicial magistrate on Thursday November 29 as per the information given by SP Laxman B Nimbargi.
