Udupi, Nov 28: A person who was frustrated by chronic health problems, chose to end his life, having been unable to bear the agony. The incident happened at Uchila near Kaup on the night of Monday, November 26.
The person who chose to kill himself in this fashion was Jaggu Mendon (68), native of Uchila Bada village near Padubidri.
Mendon had initially suffered from chest and back pain about five years back. The pain was so severe that he had to stop working as fisherman since then. Thereafter, he had often sought medical help for his condition. His wife was fending for the family by selling fish at Mudarangady.
On Monday night, the wife came back after the day's business and did not find her husband at home. After searching for long, she found that he had hanged himself from a jack fruit tree standing by the side of the family well in the courtyard. The family members suspect that Mendon would have taken this extreme step, having been unable to cope with his worsening health condition.
A case about this suicide was registered in Padubidri police station.
