Karkala, Nov 27: An accident which occurred at Pakkibettu in Mudaru village near Bajagoly in the taluk claimed the lives of two persons.The accident happened when a Maruti Omni car hit a motor bike on the evening of Monday November 26.
The deceased have been identified as Shankar Acharya (48) from Jayapura in Chikkamagalur district, and his wife, Manjula (40). The couple was returning to Jayapura after visiting a family of relatives living at Manjarapalke in the taluk, when a Maruti Omni vehicle that was moving towards the town from Bajagoly hit the motor bike. Both the bike-borne people fell to the road along with the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.
Both were immediately taken to the government hospital in the town.But Shankar had breathed his last by then. Manjuula, who was admitted into the hospital, died sometime later, without responding to treatment.
The motor bike was badly mangled in the accident while the front portion of the four-wheeler was also damaged.
On the basis of complaint filed by Manjula's brother, Rajesh Acharya, a complaint stands filed against Satish Poojary, who was driving the Omni at the time of the accident in the rural police station here. The police have begun investigation into this accident.
