Mangaluru, Nov 27: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) celebrated 'Constitution day' on November 26, 2018.
The theme of the celebration was 'Legal awareness for empowering business and service'. Justice Krishna S Dixit, judge, High Court of Karnataka was the chief guest of the programme. Kadloor Satyanarayacharya, Principal District and Sessions Judge, DK, M Venkatesh, managing director, MRPL, BHV Prasad, GGM-HR, AL Rafeeq Moideen, GM-Law and other dignitaries and senior officers of MRPL participated in the programme.
Kadloor Satyanarayacharya, Principal District and Sessions Judge, DK, spoke on the occasion and said "The constitution begins by saying ‘We, the people of India’. So we have given ourselves this constitution and we follow and obey our constitution. We salute all the great personalities of our country who contributed to make this great constitution."
Justice Krishna Shripad Dixit, judge, High Court of Karnataka, spoke on the occasion and said, "In comparison to USA, our constitution is long and has undergone more amendments. Whether it is short or long, our constitutional ethos is stronger and more withstanding." He remembered the contribution made by BN Rao, a Mangalorean, who was advisor to the constituent assembly.
"Our country is known for tolerance. That is the reason many religious leaders came to India since ancient times. Historically there were many universities in our country and this land is a land of knowledge. With knowledge we can bring honour to our constitution," justice Krishna added. He wished everyone to be knowledgeable and happy.
Speaking on the occasion, M Venkatesh, managing director of MRPL, said "We believe that we should work with natural justice, do good and right things and the rest will be taken care. It is the judiciary that comes to our rescue when things go against us. Our constitution has withstood 70 years and 101 amendments and last one being the GST." He read out major amendments to our constitution and some of the major judgements and said that judiciary can strike down any incorrect decision by the government and that is the beauty of our constitution.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various competitions.
