Udupi, Nov 27: "The work of laying gold sheet on the tower of the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Krishna Math in the city will begin at 7.30 am on Wednesday November 28. Within the next four months, the same will be completed and offered to Lord Krishna," said seer of Paryaya Palimar Math, Sri Vidhyadeesh Theertha Swamiji.
Swamiji was speaking at the press conference organized at Kanaka Mantap of Sri Krishna Math on Monday November 26. Giving further details, Swamiji said, "The building of the golden tower at Sri Krishna Math is one of the ambitious projects of my second paryaya. Around 100 kg of gold will be used for this purpose at a cost of Rs 32 crore. There is a belief that the Lord can be seen not only in the sanctum sanctorum, but also through the tower (Gopura). So Gopura is given the same importance as the sanctrum sanctorum. It is the tradition in Dravidian architecture to build the Gopura of the temple in the style of the roof. So the Gopura will be built in Karavali style using the sheets of wood, silver and gold.
"The devotees have requested not to use mercury and chemicals during the process of laying of golden sheets on the Gopura. Keeping in mind this demand of the devotees, it is decided to use long lasting work by using latest technology. While the skilled workers of Vishwakarma community will help in the wooden work, the work of gold and silver will be done by the artisans of Daivajna community. In order to make the Gopura attractive, Sarvamoola scripture of Madhwacharya will be inscribed on the sheets that will be covered on the tower. In addition, 21,600 'Hamsa Mantra' will be embossed on the sheets. This is done in order to depict Indian culture through Krishna Darshan."
