Kolkata, Nov 24 (IANS): In a bid to optimally utilise its land parcels for commercial and urbanisation purposes, the Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) is in the process of appointing a consultant to get a complete perspective on its land resources.
"We are in the process of appointing a consultant who will do the entire survey, mapping and planning. They will identify land parcels that are suitable for logistic parks, industrial use, tourism and setting up of jetties. Hopefully, the consultant will be appointed and in another 5-6 months, we will get a full perspective of our land resources," said KoPT Chairman Vinit Kumar.
The KoPT will proceed on the matter in coordination with the West Bengal government, he said, adding that the authority has about 2,000 acres of land in operational and non operational areas, Kumar said.
West Bengal Finance and Industry Minister Amit Mitra said that state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim were aware of the development and the state was hopeful to take the matter forward.
