Karkala, Nov 26: Naxals have left behind a warning message on a hand bill pasted on the wall of a shop, located near the Gomateshwara statue in Nuralbettu village, Edu gram panchayat, on the night of Sunday November 23.
It is unknown as to how many naxals were involved in this incident. Shopkeeper Raviraj Jain informed the police when he saw the handbill pasted on the wall of his shop on Monday morning. Anti-naxal force (ANF) personnel arrived on the spot and took away the handbill.
The message warned informers of dire consequences and said they would meet the fate of Sitanadi Bhoja Shetty who was gunned down by naxals despite being provided with a licensed gun by the police. It also stated that their colleagues slain in a recent ANF encounter at Mavinahola, near Horanad in Chikmagalur, were revolutionaries who were the succour of farmers, manual labourers, and the oppressed poor in Malnad.
Meanwhile, the ANF control tower has received news of the movement of naxals towards Hebri. Initial reports stated that a naxal group comprising four women and mostly new recruits is on constant move under forest cover, throughout the day. Residents living along the foothills of the Western Ghats are apprehensive about the presence of gun wielding naxals in their neighbourhood.
ANF personnel are also combing for naxals in the forest at Tombattu, under the jurisdiction of Amasebail gram panchayat, in Kundapur taluk.
