Mangaluru, Nov 22: “The coalition government in the state is in trouble. They are thinking how to make it stable. Therefore the government has no time to think about sugarcane growers,” said union minister of chemicals and fertilizers, D V Sadananda Gowda.
Speaking to news reporters in Mangaluru, he said that the union government had lent interest free loans to sugar factories and asked sugarcane growers to grow sugarcane. “But the companies did not do that. Several states have started sugarcane purchase centres and are buying sugarcane. But Karnataka government has not opened such centers,” he said.
“Though the chief minister called a meeting of sugarcane growers, the owners of sugar factories in his cabinet did not take part in it. Remove them from the cabinet or persuade them to pay sugarcane growers. The state government has failed to maintain welfare of sugarcane growers,” he alleged.
