Bengaluru, Nov 16: Veteran journalist, Ravi Belagere, has approached the state high court (HC) seeking cancellation of first information report (FIR) registered against him by the city central branch (CCB) police and also hearing of the case by a subordinate court. The CCB police have accused Belagere of hiring contract killers to murder his erstwhile colleague and also accusing Ravi of possessing arms illegally.
The CCB police had arrested Belagere during December last and interrogated him about the allegation that he had hired contract killers to murder Sunil Heggaravalli, who was working with him in the past. After being in judicial custody for sometime, Belagere had secured conditional bail. Now he has sought quashing of the case that has been registered in the court against him.
In the petition, Belagere said that the police have filed charge sheet in the case against him, and that hearing is yet to be taken up. He has argued that he has been named as an accused in the cause illegally. He also has claimed that the police have included things which are inappropriate and unrelated in the charge sheet. He has claimed that the charges levelled by the police are not supported by any evidences. Therefore he has sought cancellation of the case against him.
