Mangalore, Nov 20: Miscreants pelted stones at the grotto of St Antony Chapel located on the roadside bend at Bajpe Antonikatte, shattering its glass covering and inflicting minor damage to the lower portion of the statue of St Antony there. The incident is suspected to have occured after 12 am in the intervening night between November 19 and 20.

The chapel was shifted to its present location about a year ago, to pave way for the airport expansion. The neighbourers, who are following the practice of offering flowers to the grotto every morning, noticed the damage at around 6 am today. They immediately informed the church priest and assistant priest. Adyapady church vice president Michael D'Costa has filed a complaint in this regard, with the Bajpe police.

The policemen visited the spot and verified the damage. The took away the stones that had fallen nearby after inflicting the damage. Priest Fr Mathias Pereira and assistant priest Anil D'Silva were present during the police inspection. The police claim, that they have been patrolling the area at night but did not notice anything suspicious at night. The chapel has not been provided with any police protection.

Either there should be fear of God or at least there should be fear of those who enforce law. In the absence of both, the evil doers go scot free in creating chaos and hurting religous sentiments!

What these Miscreants do not understand is that there is only one God. If those who stoned these statues are Hindus, I would like to remind them that they have stoned a Yeshoda- Krishna Statue. All should understand that there is only one God - but many look at that entity differently than some others. If everyone understand this there will not be any conflict.

It now appears that the good Lord is very very patient with these miscreants. Anyone with the slightest association with any of the world's religions will ever delight in attacking and damaging anything that has religious sentinents to another religious community. Actually, these miscreants must not be believing in god. However, St. Antony as far as I know is the greatest among Christian Saints and he is a perpetual miracle worker. Again, it is surprising how patient God is with his wayward creations.

By doing these kind of foolish and Childish act they may harm Statues but they are building us strong in our faith, may God Bless them. Sad part is our State Government not taking firm action against these kind of acts, better control the situation before it explode. P.B.Pinto Kuwait.

These news items will be a regular feature in the future.Every one knows who is behind these brutal assaults.To please the christians the govt.will constitute committees after committees.The result will be the same.What happened to Justice Shree Krihna commission report in Maharastra?The Present commission to enquire into attacks on churches in karnataka will also find facts according to the masters guidelines.By the time the time the report is submitted,so many other attacks will take place.Ultimately these become every day news items.Christians kindly be prepared mentally to read such sad news in the future.Let us hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.

Even if you assign all the police officers in the country to safeguard the religious places in India it is impossible as they are too many in our country and will outnumber the police force. Religious harmony can not be achieved this way. It is the people who need to change their mind set. To some extent, I think the noise made by Christians was a bit too much and now it has become a child's play for anyone who wants to just do some mischief - all they need is a bike, few stones and the ability to stay awake between midnight & early morning

This is too much really.Myself& my brother sister every body studied in convent school and we never face the situation what people are claiming now.If still govt keep on sleeping our KUDLA will bcome KASHMIR very soon.best way to stop all these anti-social activities is to punish the culprits seviourly no matter who is it.i request the people to think before they act.Hoping our Tulunad will remain as it was before.

There are some elements which thrive on communal disharmony and violence. Whatever their pressure is peace loving Indians should never succumb or yield to their pressure and get into violent acts. That is the only way to defeat these elements.

When the government and police fail to protect the places of worship from these insane people then the like minded people of Mangalore will have to unite together irrespective of their caste, to stop this menace forever. The people who are doing such acts are outcasts. They are enemies of society who always want to disturb the peace .

It is very sad to know that sittl there are many anti-religious and antisocial elements who are still operating in a place which has been so peaceful before the recent attackes on churces in Mangalore and Orissa. These anti social elements to be dealt with seriously and brought to justice. It is destroying communal harmony and creating hatred for the other, and destroys the country gradually like cancer.
