Dubai, Nov 15: Dubai criminal court on Wednesday November 14 convicted a pilot for a year on charges of threatening to blow up a plane and assaulting a flight attendant in a drunken bowl.
It may be recalled that on June 2, a 27-year-old off-duty Emirati pilot who was travelling on-board an Emirates flight to Dubai from Madrid had caused trouble before departure in a drunken state.
The flight attendant who was assaulted in the plane told the court that the accused had insulted her and other co-passengers. He had also punched the attendant on her chest and took two beers from a cart without crew members’ permission.
The flight attendant further told the court that though the crew members tried to calm him down, he continued using foul language against them. He had also head but the TV screen in front of him and broke it when the cabin crew tried to restrain him with a plastic handcuffs. He also threatened to kill the flight attendant and blow up the plane with explosives.
The accused was arrested by the police soon after the plane landed at Dubai International airport.
Now the court has charged him for illegally consuming alcohol, being disorderly on-board an aircraft, and threatening the safety of passengers. He has also been charged with issuing threats to kill, insulting crew members and passengers and causing Dh10,000 worth of damage by breaking the TV screen and window.
The accused had admitted to all the charges in August and on Wednesday he was convicted by the court and imprisoned for a year
