Kasargod, Nov 4: A man who was wearing burka and seated in the midst of women at an Uroos programme was arrested by police.
The arrested has been identified as Abdul Shahid (30), a resident of Noor Manzil of Kovvalpalli, Kanhangad who is under the custody of police now.
On Friday, November 2, Uroos programme was in progress at Kumbla near here. Lady volunteers at the venue, who got suspicious about the movements of a person wearing burka and seated among the women, informed the matter to the male volunteers. According to the suggestion of the male volunteers, female volunteers approached this burkha clad person and investigated. When they lifted the veil from the face, they were in for a shock as the person was a male.
Abdul Shahid tried to escape from the spot immediately. However, he was chased and arrested in the vicinity of Kumbla railway station. He wore the burka over his trousers and shirt. He was handed over to the police for further investigation. Police are also looking into the angle as to whether this man is involved in similar crimes in the past.
