Bengaluru, Nov 3: In a unique modus-operandi, a domestic help in Bengaluru stole gold jewellery from her employer's house and replaced identical fake jewellery, to avoid being caught. However, the theft came to light when the employer's friend with sharp eyes was quick to spot roll gold.
The Koramangala police arrested Shanti Ravi, a resident of Shivajinagar, after her employer Devika, a software developer with a private firm complained to the police.
Devika, a resident of Koramangala III stage complained that she was not aware that she was wearing fake jewellery, until her friend pointed out during Varamahalakshmi festival. When she checked other jewellery in her house, she found them to be fake.
Shanti was summoned by the police, who vehemently denied any involvement. However, a background check revealed that she was earlier been booked in two theft cases in Pulikeshinagar and Shivajinagar police stations.
When the police interrogated Shanti, she confessed to the crime revealing she did it to lead a lavish life. The police have recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh from the accused. The Koramangala police have registered a case.
