Bengaluru, Nov 3: The fourth additional district and sessions court at Doddaballapur has passed an order to attach movable properties owned by Congress MLC and candidate for Ballari Lok Sabha bypoll, V S Ugrappa. The development has proved to be an embarrassment for Congress party and its candidate as this has happened just before voting.
The court found Ugrappa guilty of failing to appear for the court hearing, and not obeying the directions of the court to disburse the amount of compensation to a person who was injured in an accident involving Ugrappa's vehicle, which happened in 2010 in the outskirts of the city.
Balaji, a businessman living in Chikkasandra here, was travelling to Doddaballapur for some work in his scooter on April 8, 2010, when a Toyota Qualis car which came from behind, hit him near Mamata Petrol Bunk on the highway between the city and Doddaballapur. Balaji suffered serious injuries in the accident and his scooter was badly damaged. The car belonged to Ugrappa, who was then the chairman of committee on prevention of atrocities on women and children.
Balaji filed a suit relating to the accident, seeking relief, in 2012. The court which conducted hearing, through a judgment delivered on October 31, 2017, ordered Ugrappa to pay compensation of Rs 67,500. Ugrappa neither attended the court nor paid the compensation, thus violating the court order.
Balaji had approached the court, pointing out that Ugrappa had failed to pay compensation even after a year since the judgment was delivered.
