Bengaluru, Nov 1: The state high court (HC), expressing anguish at the government's failure to file objections on a petition questioning celebration of Tipu Jayanti filed in 2017, imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the government.
Kannada and culture department had issued a circular instructing the government offices to celebrate Tipu Jayanti all over Karnataka. K P Manjunath from Madikeri had filed petition seeking orders to quash the circular mentioned above.
The petition was referred to a division bench of the high court comprpising Chief Justice, Dinesh Maheshwari, and Justice S Sujatha, on Wednesday October 31.
Advocate for the petitioner pointed out that the government had failed to file objections even after repeatedly giving sufficient time for the same. When the bench sought reaction of the government's advocate, he sought further time.
