Kasargod, Oct 29: BJP Kerala state committee general secretary, K Surendran, who had lost previous assembly election to P A Abdul Razack of Indian Muslim League from Manjeshwar constituency by a slender margin of 89 votes, clarified that he would not withdraw the election petition he had filed in the high court, challenging the election of Razack.
Surendran, who had fought on behalf of BJP, had claimed in his petition that votes had been cast in favour of the Muslim league candidate in the names of deceased persons and those living in foreign countries. He had therefore sought himself to be declared having been elected, in view of these malpractices. Razack breathed his last on Saturday October 20, after which the high court wanted to know from Surendran what he wants to do with this case.
Surendran stated that he has informed the court that the petition should be continued, as 67 more witnesses are yet to be examined in the case.
