Puttur, Oct 26: Policemen of Uppinangady station, who succeeded in unearthing the hideout of Anas, a notorious rowdy from Kerala, succeeded in arresting him from Kochi on Thursday October 25.

Anas, it is learnt, was taken into custody from a luxury flat in Kakanad near Kochi, Kerala. Police personnel from Kerala helped the police team led by Uppinangady police sub-inspector, Nandakumar, in this task.

Anas, whose reputation is that of being a lord of the underworld, reportedly has 450 to 500 members in his gang. He has spread his network all over Kerala which has extended even to Dakshina Kannada district. Gold biscuits smuggling, kidnap, real estate dealing and other criminal activities are undertaken by his gang, it is reported. Anas faces a number of cases registered at different police stations in Kerala. Normally a resident of Ernakulam, Anas was hiding in the top floor of an eighteen-storied apartment complex in Kochi when the police apprehended him.

In this connection, four accomplices of Anas have already been arrested. The police claim that Anas murdered Unnikrishnan with help from his associates as he was apprehensive about the growing popularity of Unnikrishnan in the world of crime and there was threat of him going ahead, leaving Anas far behind.
