Udupi, Oct 25: “The district administration is applying delay tactics even though the chief minister had given clear instructions in a meeting of elected representatives in Bengaluru of starting sand mining before October 15. Therefore, as informed earlier, BJP has extended full support for indefinite day and night protests in front of the office of deputy commissioner, Manipal Rajathadri on October 25 involving all the concerned organizations and elected representatives across party lines urging for permitting sand mining,” said BJP district president Mattar Rathnakar Hegde in a press statement.

“The deputy commissioner in the press statement has stated that she has written a letter to the government for amendments of certain rules in this connection. The campaign for sand mining is in progress for the last two years and the letters are written now after taking no action so far. It is laughable. What was the difficulty for the district administration to take similar actions two years ago? It will take at least another one year to take action on the basis of the replies. The district administration and the government should stop playing games with the people and take suitable steps to provide sand. The situation may become grave otherwise,” he stated in the statement.
