Mumbai, Nov 10: India and Russia’s time-tested friendship should become the basis for future co-operation between the two countries, said Alexander Vakhmistrov, vice-governor, St Petersburg, Russia, on Friday November 7.
Speaking to Governor S C Jamir at Raj Bhavan, Vakhmistrov said that St Petersburg and Mumbai are large cities with similar features. The two cities should join hands to build bridges of co-operation and address their common problems, he suggested.
Welcoming Vakhmistrov to Maharashtra, Governor Jamir said that India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was a great friend of Russia which has stood by India in good and bad times. This legacy of India’s friendship with Russia continues to this day, he said.
Meanwhile, Vakhmistrov added that next month’s visit to India by Dimitry Medvedev, the President of the Russian Federation, will further strengthen relationships between the two nations.
