Goa, Oct 21: Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday said announced that the global investors will gather in Goa in the first week of December this year to participate in the meet which aims at financing the Start Up community in the coastal state.
Prabhu told a gathering in Goa that global event will be organised in December 07, 2018 in which the global investors will be arriving to look at the Start Ups which they would be financing.
“One of the problem faced by start ups is finance. We have called all the global players who are financing. This event will bring in global players for investment in the sector for the first time,” Prabhu said addressing the gathering after inaugurating state-of-the-art green building centre at Kudaim Industrial Estate by ACC Cement company in partnership with Goa’s ALCON group.
Prabhu said that this event will be held in Goa annually during which the start up community in financing, venture capitalists. Investors, growth capital providers will assemble.
“We are thinking of creating national hub of start up in Goa,” he commented.
The minister said that he is “looking forward for goa becoming a new hub for green ideas.”
“Therefore we are working on many things. At the same time we have to create employment for people. If you only talk about green then what happens to the people. If you do not protect environment without protecting interest of the people then it will become difficult,” he added.
The minister said “to create employment and to keep it clean we need to think about cleaner ideas.”
Prabhu also said that the Goa will house logistic hub as the State has all the infrastructure required for the facility.
“When I became minister of commerce, I had logistic as a part of the responsibility. First time prime minister has created new department called logistic. All logistic related issues are under my ministry. We are preparing for first time integrated logistic plan for India and in that plan I had said that in Goa we will keep a logistic hub,” he said.
“Goa has a port, railway infrastructure and we are constructing airport. We have a situation where new airport is coming and we are constantly monitoring that it comes in stipulated time. Goa is an ideal candidate for creating logistic hub which will result in huge job creation,” Prabhu commented.
Talking about support to the service sector, Prabhu said the central government has earmarked Rs 5,000 crore for providing full support for service sector and it has identified twelve champion sectors for services.
“We want to provide support to services in a big way so that services also become a growth engine. Services are the biggest job providers. I have requested Goa government to submit proposal so that we can give part of the money to the state,” he said.
Prabhu also said that the centre will promote agricultural export from Goa as a part of its policy which will be soon approved by the central cabinet.
“We will promoting agriculture export from Goa. The Agriculture export policy would be cleared by the central cabinet very soon,” he said.
“All the farmers of Goa will benefit. The horticulture or vegetable can be exported globally. I have already spoken with UAE, Saudi Arbia,Oman and they are willing to import it from India. We will work in a manner that Goa gets developed but still remains green,” he added.
