Mangaluru, Oct 21: President of South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank and chairman of Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Federation, M N Rajendra Kumar, will be conferred with 'Mahatma Gandhi Samman' honour during the Global Indian summit meet of NRI Society of India, New Delhi. This programme is being organised at the House of Commons, London, on October 25.
Kumar has been picked for this award considering his immense contributions to the field of cooperation and his dedicated service to this sector. He will be the first ever person from the cooperative sector to have been chosen for this coveted recognition.
By ably guiding SCDCC Bank since the last 24 hours to serve both urban and rural areas and building it into a people-friendly bank to stand tall in the face of competition offered by nationalised and private banks, he has implemented various schemes. Under him the bank has been bagging best district central cooperative bank award since the last 19 years, Karnataka State Cooperative Apex Bank award and NABARD award since the last 17 years. After he took over, the number of branches of the bank has risen from 25 to 105 branches, deposits have swelled to Rs 3561 crore from Rs 64 crore, and profit has increased from Rs 42 lac to Rs 28.60 crore. Rajendra Kumar has also won several awards including doctorate from Colombo University and Best Chairman national award from Banking Frontiers, Mumbai.
