#MeToo rocks Indian cricket! BCCI CEO Rahul Johri accused of sexual harassment

Mumbai, Oct 13(DC): In another horrific incident as the #MeToo continues to make headlines, a woman who goes by the Twitter handle “@PedestrianPoet has accused the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) CEO Rahul Johri of sexual harassment.

She took to the micro-blogging site to share screenshots where she has explained the entire incident.

This comes just days after there were reports of Sri Lankan cricketers Arjuna Ranatunga and Lasith Malinga being accused due to the same.

Johri, before taking over as BCCI CEO was serving as the Vice President and General Manager of Discovery Netweorks Asia Pacific.

Johri took over as the post in BCCI in April 2016.

    This campaign has lot of merits and a few demerits too.

    1. Women can come out and put the truth out and get justice for the exploitation she would have suffered in an coercive environment. Often women refrain from complaining against influential people fearing backlash or for monetary reasons. I do agree still our society is male dominated for various reasons.

    2. But there might be instances of blackmailing by women to gain something or teach a lesson for any other reason. Some times in an office or in any professional field there might be issues with the superior or boss on the efficiency part of the employee. In that case employee might take shelter under the umbrella "harassment" which might be dangerous. We all know that once the issue comes up character assassination will start in the media before knowing the truth.

    So this issue has to be addressed on a specific case basis after hearing the other side of the story.

    When famous personalities like MJ Akbar, ND Tiwari etc who are accused of sexual harassment are with BJP, other organizations will not take 'MeToo' so seriously!

    In order to get a break in showbiz, a struggling actress sleeps with a senior actor/director/producer/ celebrity wilfully and without any coercion. As she becomes famous, she then accuses him of sexual harassment in order to get public sympathy and play women-rights-champion.

    Lets agree that a woman was ready to sleep with somebody for a job to be done. How is the man explaining it ? That asking her to surrender physically was part of his duty ?

    The woman may have moved on, married (may have disclosed it ho her husband), divorced, widowed, whatever. How is the man (may be married so somebody else) going to explain it to his wife ?

    It takes two hands to clap. If a woman wants to resist she can. If she can't she shouldn't put herself in a vulnerable position in the first place. When crap like this happens the woman is equally to be blamed. In other words, as in other things in life, better safe than sorry.

    Do you know why so many of our female athletes have ended up paupers ? Because they didn't abide by the demands. It applies to all fields. Sexual favour is at par with bribery. Corporate evils of our society.
