Udupi, Nov 5: Deepavali-National Integration – Message; a unique function was held recently at Shankarapura main bus stand, near here, under the auspices of Rotary Shankarapura in association with Nagarika Samiti, Catholic Sabha, Inner Wheel Club, Jasmine Jaycees, ICYM, Sarvajanika Ganeshotsav Samiti – Shankarapura and Rotaract Subash Nagar.
The programme was presided over by Rotary Shankarapura president Dr Edward Lobo while Rotary zonal assistant governor Raja Patrao was the chief guest on the occasion.
Eminent religious leaders of various faiths such as Mother of Sorrows church Udupi parish priest Fr Mathew Vas, Humanitarian Relief Society state general secretary Akbar Ali, Kabyadi Jayaram Acharya and Jyotish Vidwan Parkala delivered their messages.
Fr Mathew Vas, in his address explained how the teachings of Christ are relevant for a peaceful and friendly living in the society without harming others sentiments. He emphasized friendly relations with other religions and called for concerted efforts by all communities towards peaceful living.
Akbar Ali said that violence has no place in any religion and more so in Islam and appealed to be a better human being than anything else. He also said the festival of Deepavali brings light not only in the outside environment but also inside of every human being.
Kabyadi Jayaram Acharya explained the importance of Deepavali in the light of Hinduism and also Bhagavadgeeta and other teachings. He urged brethrens of Hindus, Muslims and Christians to live in harmony and strive at attaining all-round progress and peace.
Presidents of various associate organizations were present at the dais along with the guests.
Rotary Shankarapura president Dr Edward Lobo welcomed the gathering and explained the significance of organizing a unique function in the prevailing situation in the country. Antony D’Sa briefly explained the activities of Rotary Shankarapura since the past 25 years and acknowledged the support of philanthropists around the locality. Rotary Shankarapura secretary R V Prabhu proposed vote of thanks.
Fire works were displayed at the end of function.
The function was appreciated by all the guest speakers and they applauded the organizers for their unique efforts.
