Udupi, Sep 9: Udupi district Congress has called for Bharat bandh on September 10 against central government for its failure to curb rise in fuel prices.
In a press release, district Congress president Janardhana Thonse said that after the central government came to power, the fuel prices have skyrocketed. "The prices of things that common man uses daily have gone up.
The rupee value too has come down due to economic mismanagement by the central government. If it continues, the fuel prices might cross Rs 100. Though international crude oil prices have come down, the government has not cut down fuel prices in the country. By hike in fuel prices, the central government has collected Rs 11 lac crore.
“We had asked to bring petrol and diesel under the GST. Even after four years the central government has not succeeded in bringing down fuel prices. The government has completely failed to help the common man. Hence the Congress party has called for Bharat bandh. Several other parties and associations must extend their support to our bandh call,” said Thonse in the release.
