Hassan, Sep 2: The Shiradi Ghat stretch on Bengaluru-Mangaluru National Highway and Sampaje Ghat will be opened for light vehicles in ten days, said PWD Minister H D Revanna at a press meet in Hassan on September 1.
Revanna said that restoration work was challenging, as the stretch was damaged in many places due to landslides which happened when heavy rains lashed the coastal and Malanad districts recently. However, the repair work is currently going on in full swing, he said.
The minister also stressed that vehicles will be allowed only after deputy commissioners of Hassan and Dakshina Kannada and PWD officials will certify the stretch to be fit for travel. There are plans currently to allow mini tempos transporting vegetables, cars, two-wheelers and KSRTC Volvo buses. However, another six months is needed to allow heavy vehicles, he said.
In another issue, the Minister brought to light on some powerful people in district being involved in land scams. These people obtained land from KIADB and sold it others, he said adding that there were attempts to acquire the land reserved for IIT.
