Belagavi, Aug 25: Police personnel of cyber economic and narcotic station here, on Friday August 24, arrested the admin of a WhatsApp group on the allegation of trying to disrupt the social health of the society through the said social website.
The arrested man has been identified as Akshay Rajendra Algodikar (29), resident of Mahaveer Nagar here. It is gathered that Akshay had opened a WhatsApp group titled 'Top Music Only' and admitted his friends and several foreigners as its members. This group, it is said, in particular dealt with messages which were in the form of instigating communal and religious passions. It was observed that pictures of gods were cloned with obscene pictures. Members of these groups also shared the contents with other groups. Taking into account possibility of these posts flaring up communal disturbances, the police registered suo moto case and undertook operation.
The police say that Akshay had admitted two Pakistani citizens as members of this group. On August 5, the Pakistanis had posted messages in the group which had the potential to disturb religious sentiments. The policemen noticed that these messages were getting shared with other groups and were becoming viral.
Police have considered the Pakistani citizen who posted the message first as the first accused and the group admin as the second accused, in a case registered on Friday. Akshay, who was arrested, stands remanded to judicial custody.
