Mangaluru, Aug 21: St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia celebrated 18th Konkani Divas on August 19. Louis J Pinto, an eminent and well known personality in Konkani unfolded the Konkani flag and lifted the spirit of the Konkani community, this was witnessed by the parish priest Fr James D’Souza, assistant parish priest Fr Joswin D’Souza, Fr Arun Lobo, vice-president Anil Lobo, secretary Lizzy Pinto, cultural committee representative Sandra Lobo and all the parishioners.
The evening programme was commenced by Fr Joswin invoking God’s blessings, throw of honor to all theachieves in various categories for their contribution and excellence. The chief guest Irne Rebello felicitated the achievers along with other dignitaries on the dais. The youths felicitated were Chrisly Nilsy Arulu D’Souza, for securing CA, Aaral Alisha Monteiro for securing NEET rank, Valerie Anna Lobo for being the YCS varado president, Relston Stuart Lobo for president of St Aloysius College, Patrick D’Souza for being the Catholic Sabha Varado president, Jane Mascarenhas for being the member of cultural committee member of YCS central level and Ruben Braggs and Renola D’Souza were also felicitated for reaching the final in dance reality show ‘Nach Nara, Nach Nari’. Vidya Thoras, a lady candidate of board of directors, Maco-Society was also felicitated.
The chief guest Irene Rebello in her message urged youngsters and young parents to speak Konkani as their medium of language to communicate and to take pride in knowing Konkani language. As Nativity is round the corner she also encouraged the audience gathered to celebrate Monthi feast in traditional Konkani manner. The vice-president of the parish pastoral council Anil Lobo cordially welcomed the chief guest and the other dignitaries.
The parish priest Fr James D’Souza acknowledged and appreciated the involvement of the youth in the parish community; and mentioned the noble blood donation camp which really a hard dedicated work of the IYCM. He strongly asked the gathering present to imbibe and inculcate and cherish Konkani language.
The celebration rippled waves of a rich cultural programme where in bald, bold, and beautiful dances, danced, sang, acted to the tune of Konkani songs which was highlighted.
The august gathering relish the meal cooked with oneness by the 18 Wards. The aroma of love was shared by all. The joy was to see more than 1,000 members delightfully present for the celebration.
