Beijing asks US to treat Chinese companies fairly

Beijing, Aug 14 (IANS): China on Tuesday called on the US to treat Chinese investors fairly and not use national security censorship to curb investment cooperation between companies of the two countries.

China's Ministry of Commerce released a statement after US President Donald Trump on Monday signed a review of his national security law to reinforce the regulatory power of the Committee on Foreign Investment in Washington, reports Efe news.

The Ministry said that China would thoroughly assess the content of the proposed law and closely monitor its impact on Chinese companies.

It said companies in China and the US have the will and great potential to deepen their investment cooperation and that both governments must respond to this demand by providing a conducive and stable environment for growth.

Trump green lighted the reform of the national security law as part of the framework of signing a record budget for defence at $716 billion for fiscal year 2019.

He signed the budget law on Monday that the Congress had passed in early summer during a military event in Fort Drum in New York.
