Kundapur, Oct 15: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, local unit leader and Congressman Suresh Poojary was attacked with lethal weapons by a gang of masked men at Tekkatte near here on Tuesday October 14. Poojary, with critical injuries, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Manipal. He was provided with first-aid at a Koteshwar hospital.

Poojary was moving towards his car after participating in a compromise dialogue at a hotel in Tekkatte, when four masked men who came in a car moved towards him menacingly, with sabres in their hands. As people raised a din, Poojary got alerted, but could not escape from getting seriously wounded. Although he ran for cover, the miscreants chased him and hit him with their weapons. They then fled in the Ambassador car in which they had arrived.

Those who saw the goings-on said that in addition to the four men, one more was at the wheels. The car has since been traced at Manur, a short distance from Tekkatte. The police have seized the car. Udupi deputy superintendent of police Vishwanath Pandit visited the spot.
