Kundapur, Aug 13: CPIM's Gunaratna, who was a member of Kundapur municipal council thrice and president once after its formation has become victim of greed for power. She has given up the principle followed by her in the last twenty years and joined BJP.

Gunaratna joined BJP in the party office at Kundapur. BJP president Kadoor Suresh Shetty handed over a party flag to her in the presence of Kundapur MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty and welcomed her to the party. BJP state executive member Kiran Kodgi, chief secretary Bhasker Billava and Shanker Ankadakatte were present.

Expelled by the party: CPIM Kundapur zonal secretary H Narasimha has stated that Gunaratna has been expelled from the party as her joining BJP became certain. He said that Gunaratna who contested from CPIM for the last twenty years and performed as member and president of municipal council has discarded people. “The party condemns her for having ignored requests made by senior CPIM party leaders and joined BJP which follows anti labour and communal policies.”

Municipal council election heat is picking up in the state. Congress, BJP and JDS, three main parties in the state have vowed to win elections. Kundapur municipal council is not an exception to it. As elections are being announced, some are leaving parties which had given them opportunities in the past.
