Hassan, Aug 8: A person from the town used to issue pension sanction letters to specially abled persons, old age people and widows by charging just Rs 2,000. He also did not demand any documents. Mohan Kumar from this town, who had issued fake sanction letters to hundreds of people, has now been caught red-handed. He was caught by the police who laid out a trap for him with the help of employees of the office for disabled welfare here and succeeded in arresting him.

Mohan Kumar used to issue fake documents to beneficiaries under various schemes like specially abled, old age, widow pension etc. After receiving a complaint on this aspect, officials of disabled welfare office here deputed an employee of the office, Kiran Kumar, who is specially abled, to contact Mohan Kumar. When he contacted Mohan seeking pension for him under the specially abled category, Kumar said it would cost Rs 1,500. Kiran promised to pay him the amount as soon as he hands over the pension sanction.

At the suggestion of Mohan Kumar to reach near a hotel next to the post office, Kiran went there. When Kiran got there, the accused asked him to come near the park. Kiran Kumar went to the park and received the pension order from Mohan Kumar. When he was paying cash, he was caught red-handed. Disabled welfare officer, Mallesh, said that Mohan had issued fake certificates by creating fake documents. He used to affix fake signatures of the district hospital doctor, other officials etc. 120 fake cards have so far been recovered, he added.

It is said that specially abled with less than 40 percent disability are not eligible for pension, but Mohan used to help to subvert this rule. Five rubber seals pertaining to doctors and senior officials of certain departments were recovered from his office. One of the seals was of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences medical officer, while another was of the tahsildar. A pen he used for putting fake signature was also recovered, police personnel stated.
