Mangalore, Oct 13: A day-long workshop on emergency management of patients affected by poisoning including snake bites, industrial poisoning etc., was held at K S Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA), under the auspices of the department of anaesthesiology and critical care on Saturday October 9. This was a pre-summit event of the fourth Indo-US Emergency Medicine Summit. N V Hegde, president of Nitte Education Trust and chancellor of Nitte University, inaugurated the event. He insisted on making these facilities available to the poor and needy rural people.
Dr M Shantharam Shetty was the guest of honour. Dr Arunachalam Kumar presided over the function and laid stress on the need to train the public as well as medical personnel, in identifying different species of venomous and non-venomous snakes common in rural parts of India.
Dr Praveen Agarwal, head of the department (HOD) of emergency medicine, All India Institute Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Dr Sage Wiener and Dr Sari Soghoian from State University of New York were the eminent resource persons for the workshop.
Dr Anand Bangera, Prof and HoD, anaesthesiology and critical care, KSHEMA welcomed the gathering. Dr Sudesh Rao, secretary general of the fourth Indo-US Emergency Medicine Summit, introduced the faculty. Dr Suvedha Sood delivered vote of thanks.
Dr Sumalatha R Shetty and Dr Ankur Sethi compered the event.
Around 200 delegates of different medical Colleges from all over India participated in the workshop.
